Red Clay primarily supports the involvement of parents and community members including historically underrepresented groups as active participants in the school improvement process through monthly meeting of the Consolidated Grant Parent Advisory Council.
The CGPAC is comprised of parent representatives from each school and members of the general community. The executive board includes the offices of president, vice president, secretary and an events coordinator. School PTA/PTO presidents serve as active members of the CGPAC. Monthly CGPAC meetings serve as a direct link between parents and district-wide central office staff to promote networking with PTA/PTO’s and school administrators.
Training provided to CGPAC members includes grant application completion, analysis of data, goal setting, and recommendations and suggestions of activities to be implemented by the CGPAC, an explanation of state and federal program regulations, and an understanding of Consolidated Grant assurances. CGPAC members serve on the Consolidated Grant application planning committee and are invited to attend quarterly meetings at DOE that address school improvement.
The CGPAC members are encouraged to make recommendations concerning parent involvement and communication issues.
The CGPAC working cooperatively with Title I and Title IV program managers organize an annual Family Resource Fair for all school families. Demonstrations, presentation, exhibits and hands-on activities are provided to encourage parent involvement and an understanding of the services provided by Red Clay personnel and community agencies that support and service Red Clay schools. Additional parent information events are planned throughout the school year to help parents address instructional, behavioral and attendance concerns.
